Swiatek ‘Going To Win A Slam Again’ In 2024 According To Former Roland Garros Finalist

Swiatek ‘Going To Win A Slam Again’ In 2024 According To Former Roland Garros Finalist

Iga Swiatek won only one Grand Slam in 2023, but she’ll win at least one in 2024, according to former pro Alex Corretja.

Corretja was a pretty good tennis player during his peak, making the Roland Garros final, among other things. He never won the event, unlike Iga Swiatek, who has three trophies from the French capital.

The most recent one came earlier this year as she bested Karolina Muchova in a match where she was down a break in the final set. According to the Polish player, who faced strong opposition from all sides this year, it was the hardest to win.

It wasn’t a bad year for her despite winning only one Grand Slam, as she still finished as number one in the world after a title-winning run at the WTA Finals. Despite the opposition catching up on Swiatek, Corretja still feels she’s the player to beat, per a recent interview with Eurosport.

She proved it at the WTA Finals by winning the event largely unopposed. According to the former player, Swiatek will add at least one more in 2024 because she’s approaching tennis correctly.

Swiatek she’s learning so much. I think she’s going in the right direction. She’s not just thinking about winning in the short term. She’s trying to improve different things, in my opinion. She’s hitting the ball harder, especially on the forehand side. Her surface game also been improving quite a lot.

One thing that sort of gave her some trouble in 2023 was playing against heavy hitters. Both Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina gave her problems and beat her, so that’s something she needs to find a way to overcome. If she does, she’ll be pretty hard to stop.

She needs to be able to be a contender against players that hit very hard. And she needs to be very aware about that. She’s very low on her legs and that’s why she’s also moving very well, probably the best mover on tour. And I think she knows now that she needs to be also very aggressive because everybody’s trying to dictate, but at the same time she’s trying to be very stable.

The result of all of this will be another slam for Swiatek in 2024. Perhaps even two or possibly three. Who knows? We’ll see.

So I think she’s going to be great in 2024 and I see her even more mature. So I’m sure that she’s going to win a Slam again.
