Swiatek Maintains No. 1 Ranking in WTA Rankings Despite Loss in Stuttgart

Swiatek Tightens Grip On No. 1 Spot In Latest WTA Rankings Despite Stuttgart Setback

Iga Swiatek has reached a significant milestone with her 100th week as the women’s World No. 1. She is expected to maintain her position through the clay swing season for the remainder of the year.

Recently, Swiatek faced her first defeat at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, losing to World no. 4 Elena Rybakina in the semifinals. Despite this loss, she holds a comfortable lead over Aryna Sabalenka, the second-placed player, by nearly 3000 points as they head into the final big clay events before Roland Garros.

At the same event, Coco Gauff had the opportunity to challenge Sabalenka for the No. 2 spot but fell short, losing in the quarterfinal. Rybakina emerged as the tournament champion in Stuttgart, solidifying her position and creating a gap between herself and fifth-placed Jessica Pegula.

Jessica Pegula is currently sidelined with an injury, which means that players like Maria Sakkari, Marketa Vondrousova, and Qinwen Zheng will compete for the fifth spot in the rankings. Ons Jabeur and Jelena Ostapenko complete the Top 10 players in the women’s rankings.

After her performance in Stuttgart, Marta Kostyuk has climbed to a career-high ranking of No. 21. Despite narrowly missing out on a Top 20 spot, Kostyuk’s continued improvement indicates that she will achieve that milestone in the near future.

Sloane Stephens recently secured her first WTA title in two years at the Rouen Open, propelling her to the world No. 33 spot. With this victory, Stephens is aiming to secure a Top 32 seed for Roland Garros.

Magda Linette, the runner-up in Rouen, has re-entered the Top 50 rankings, currently at 48th place. Meanwhile, former World No. 1 Karolina Pliskova has dropped to 53rd after a defeat to Stephens in Rouen. Additionally, Caroline Dolehide fell out of the Top 50 rankings after taking a break.

Julia Riera from Argentina made her Top 100 debut, ranking 94th after winning the W75 Chiasso ITF event in Switzerland. To see all the players who have made significant rankings leaps, visit our dedicated rankings page.
