Iga Swiatek‘s impressive victory over Aryna Sabalenka in the Madrid Open final marked a significant milestone in her career.
Swiatek triumphed over Sabalenka 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 after an intense three-hour match to claim her first title in Madrid. This victory filled a notable gap in the Polish player’s collection of titles on European clay.
This win marked Swiatek’s eighth title on clay courts, establishing her as the dominant force on this surface among her peers. It also secured her 20th career title, making her the first player, male or female, born in the 2000s to reach this milestone.
Born in 2001 and soon turning 23, Swiatek is the youngest player since Caroline Wozniacki in 2012 to achieve 20 titles at such a young age.
Holding nine WTA 1000 titles from 29 appearances, Swiatek shares second place among active female players in this category since its establishment in 2009.
With a remarkable career still in its early stages, Swiatek’s 30th win of the season positions her well in her quest for a fourth Roland Garros title.
Recently breaking into the Top 10 of all-time weeks at No. 1 on the WTA list, Swiatek surpassed Lindsay Davenport and is poised for further ascent following her historic win in Madrid.
Tied with Elena Rybakina for the most titles this year (3), Swiatek is the top earner on the WTA tour despite a slow start at the Australian Open. Her upcoming challenge is the Italian Open in Rome, where she aims to secure her third title.
