Swiatek On People Judging Her From Outside

Swiatek On People Judging Her From Outside

Iga Swiatek grew up in an age when people could express their opinions on the internet, but she’s staying off it lately because there is too much negativity out there.

The Polish player is a public figure, and as such, many people think they can contribute with their opinions about her life, whether it’s on the tennis court or away from it. As the top player in the world, Swiatek deals with a lot of pressure, and people judge her any time she shows a semblance of humanity.

Unfortunately, that’s just how it is for athletes, but she’s choosing now to step away from that. Speaking ahead of the 2024 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, the Polish player admitted that she’s trying to manage her time spent on social media.

“Now there’s actually so many things that I really don’t understand on the Internet that are weird and not really true, it’s better for me to stay away from it a little bit. In terms of the expectations from the outside, that’s it. But I have my expectations.”

” I would say if I feel like I didn’t manage expectations well overall, it’s because I didn’t manage my expectations. The ones from the outside, they really don’t matter that much because I made huge work to manage it and to not really care about them.”

Swiatek has done a lot of work to manage herself as best as possible, and it’s part of why she’s still number one on the WTA Tour. She always finds a way to play her best tennis, regardless of all the noise around her, which is commendable. But it still affects her.

“Still sometimes it hits you, especially when you’re tired and you know you did your best, but still people are scrutinizing you. They don’t know the full truth, what’s going on off the court, as well. Sometimes it’s not easy.”

” I already kind of understand how the world works, and I’m not expecting that it’s going to change. For sure it would be nice if people remember that we’re still human. Yeah, it’s not possible to win every tournament.”
