Iga Swiatek is excited about her potential Olympics mixed doubles pairing with compatriot Hubert Hurkacz next season.
Swiatek and Hurkacz are the projected pairing for Poland’s mixed doubles team in Paris 2024, provided both players are fit and ready for the competition.
The pair already showed some potential at the World Tennis League exhibition this week as the duo defeated the Russian team of Andrey Rublev and Mirra Andreeva.
Ultimately, Swiatek and Hubi’s win in Abu Dhabi over their Russian competitors was a good sign for next summer at the Olympics. However, in her interview with The National, Swiatek explained that, while she is looking forward to planning the mixed doubles contest with Hurkacz, she is also taking next season one step at a time.
“Yes, for sure [it’s a big goal]. We’re going to have some time to think about that before the clay season obviously. But for now, I’m just thinking about Australia and trying not to go too far because the season is long and a lot of things can happen,”
It is perhaps natural that Swiatek wants to focus on early 2024 rather than getting ahead in the schedule.
The WTA world number one will be looking forward to making a strong start next season to push on from 2023, where she won a fourth career Grand Slam at Roland Garros and lifted the WTA Finals title in November.
Although, when thinking about getting some competitive doubles practice alongside Hubi, the 22-year-old said she was excited about the partnership and feels that getting on the Olympic podium would be a big career achievement.
“But I’m really happy that I have the opportunity to play some mixed doubles with Hubi and to test it out and practise a little bit before the Olympics because getting a medal there would be a dream come true for sure.”
