Taylor Booth’s hat trick edges brother Zach in head-to-head showdown

Sunday’s Eredivisie showdown between Taylor and Zach Booth proved to be a memorable day for them and their family.

Taylor scored his first-career hat trick while Zach scored once in FC Utrecht’s 4-2 league victory over FC Volendam. It marked the first head-to-head showdown between the American attackers since their respective moves to the Netherlands.

FC Volendam struck first in the ninth minute after Zach Booth finished off Bilal Ouid-Chikh’s cross for a 1-0 lead. It marked the Leicester City loanee’s first goal of the season.

However, Taylor would equalized for FC Utrecht in the 38th minute, receiving a pass from Sam Lammers and drilling a low shot into the bottom-left corner. It was Taylor’s second goal off the season and first since December 20.

After Nick Viergever and Josh Flint traded goals of their own, Booth propelled FC Utrecht in front 3-2 with a nicely-place shot.

The 22-year-old would cap off his Man of the Match performance in the 84th minute, this time slotting home with his left foot in the 84th minute. FC Utrecht would hang on for its first league victory since December 10, snapping a five-match winless run in all competitions.

The result moves FC Utrecht into 11th place in the Eredivisie table while FC Volendam sits in 17th, seven points from safety.

Ron Jans’ squad next hosts Fortuna Sittard on Feb. 11 while FC Volendam hosts league-leaders PSV on the same day.
