Professional golfer Taylor Pendrith put on an impressive performance on Thursday, making 10 birdies during his round at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas for the Shriners Children’s Open. Despite his strong play, Pendrith narrowly missed an eagle on the final hole that would have seen him shoot a sub-60 round.
In a post-round interview, Pendrith admitted that he was indeed thinking about the possibility of shooting a historic round. He explained, “Yeah, obviously. I tried to hit a great shot and just came off it a little bit. It was close to being really good, I think.”
After a long 356-yard drive, Pendrith found himself with just a 7-iron distance from the green. However, he ended up in the front bunker due to catching the shot heavy with the flag in a challenging position.
Despite the challenging situation, Pendrith remained determined to make the most of his shot. He shared, “Me and my caddie didn’t really talk about it, but I think we both knew I was going to try and hole the bunker shot.”
Ultimately, Pendrith settled for a 10-under 61 after missing the birdie putt following the bunker shot. This score tied his career low on Tour and gave him an early three-stroke lead in the tournament.

Pendrith’s stellar play continued throughout the round, showcasing his skills on the golf course. He started with birdies on five of the next six holes after a par on the first hole. Pendrith’s strong approach shots and putting efficiency contributed to his success, ranking high in driving distance, Strokes Gained: Approach, and Strokes Gained: Putting.
Despite limited tournament play recently, Pendrith expressed satisfaction with his performance and confidence in his ability to compete at a high level. He concluded, “You know, obviously thrilled and yeah, just got to keep getting back into the rhythm of things and the next few days. Yeah, feel good.”
