Team USA Surges Ahead with Impressive Four-Point Lead at Solheim Cup – Latest Golf Updates

USA storm into four-point lead at Solheim Cup - Golf News

The European team faces a mountain to climb on Saturday in its bid to retain the Solheim Cup after trailing the US by four points at the end of day one.

In the morning foursomes session, the home side won three of the four matches at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Virginia.

Esther Henseleit and Charley Hull were defeated 3&2 by Nelly Korda and Allisen Corpuz in the first match.

Rose Zhang and Lauren Coughlin beat Celine Boutier and Albane Valenzuela by the same margin. Lilia Vu and Sarah Schmelzel took down Linn Grant and Carlota Ciganda with a 3&2 victory in the final match.

Europe’s only point of the morning session came from Emily Pedersen and Maja Stark with a 2-up win.

After building a 4-up lead through the first five holes, the American duo of Ally Ewing and Jennifer Kupcho clawed back with birdies on 14 and 15. However, Pedersen and Stark held on to finish 2-up.

Anna Nordqvist and Madelene Sagström earned Europe’s solitary point in the afternoon fouballs

AFTERNOON FOURBALLS

In the afternoon four-ball session, the US repeated the 3-1 scoreline from the morning session to lead Europe 6-2 at the end of the first day.

Korda and Megan Khang defeated Georgia Hall and Leona Maguire by 6&4, while Coughlin and Schmelzel defeated Pedersen and Stark 3&2.

Andrea Lee and Zhang secured a 5&4 victory over Grant and Hull after the match had been all square after eight.

Ana Nordqvist and Madelene Sagström won six holes on the trot to record a 6&5 victory over Lexi Thompson and Alison Lee.

Europe avoided a 4-0 whitewash that they suffered in the opening foursomes last year. Captain Pettersen expressed confidence in their ability to bounce back.

TRAFFIC CHAOS

The Solheim Cup started with chaos off the course, as fans faced long queues and delays with shuttle buses from a public car park.

The LPGA apologized to fans impacted by transportation issues and promised improvements for the following days of the event.
