With a moniker like Teddy Buckets, the expectations were already sky high for the arrival of the Leicester Riders’ newest star, Teddy Allen, and now he’s been awarded the Molten Player of the Month title for his performances in December.
Signing for Head Coach Rob Paternostro’s side on December 8th,
Allen has already become one of the biggest names in the League after just a
few weeks of action on British shores.
The defending Canadian Elite Basketball League Most Valuable Player averaged over 23 points, five rebounds and two assists per game in his opening month of British Basketball League action.
An unstoppable force for Leicester, Allen has contributed in
volume with relative ease so far in Riders red and will undoubtedly be one to
watch as his new team look to secure their first silverware of the season this
month as the British Basketball League Trophy takes centre stage.
With 32 points on his debut against the Caledonia Gladiators
live on Sky Sports, Allen set out his stall immediately in the League and hasn’t
showed signs of slowing down since with his impressive scoring average
supplemented by a mind-boggling 55.2% clip from three-point range.
An impeccable rookie month in the League will need to be followed up by a sublime sophomore outing if Leicester are to have a successful January and build themselves towards the return of the Championship campaign and a push to climb the standings.
Reflecting on his win, Allen said:
“I appreciate the League and the fans for recognising our team and how hard we’ve played this month. Shoutout to my teammates and to Coach for helping me adjust as best as I could to a new situation and for me to help get some wins. Now we’re rolling towards Trophy play.”
