Former Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham predicts Erik ten Hag will be sacked by Christmas - Man United News And Transfer News

Former Manchester United treble winner Teddy Sheringham has criticized Erik ten Hag’s performance as manager and predicts he will be sacked by Christmas.

Despite a promising first season, many fans had become disillusioned with Ten Hag’s excuses and chaotic style of football following a disappointing eighth-place finish in the league and a poor Champions League campaign last season.

Although a surprise FA Cup win bought him some time, two recent defeats have once again put immense pressure on the former Ajax manager.

The abysmal display in the 0-3 home loss to Liverpool has dampened much of the optimism from the FA Cup final, and sources close to the club believe that if things don’t improve soon, Ten Hag will be in serious danger of losing his job.

In a scathing assessment of the manager’s performance, ex-United striker Teddy Sheringham expressed his concerns about Ten Hag’s tenure.

During a Ladbrokes event covered by The Sun and The Mirror, the former England international stated, “When you’re finishing eighth in the Premier League, that’s simply not good enough for Manchester United.”

“It’s not pleasant to criticize people’s positions, but he shouldn’t be there. It’s below the standards expected for Manchester United. They’ve fallen far short of expectations, and to accept an eighth-place finish… it’s unacceptable,” Sheringham continued.

Regarding Ten Hag’s future at the club, Sheringham boldly claimed, “Do I believe the manager will still be around by the end of the season? No, I don’t. I think he’ll be gone before Christmas.”

The former Tottenham forward also questioned the caliber of players United are acquiring, suggesting that while they may be talented, they are not the signings needed to propel the club to the next level.

He criticized United’s lack of pursuit for players like Harry Kane and Declan Rice and pointed out a potential error in signing Matthijs de Ligt.

“All these signings… de Ligt, for example: sure, he’s a good player, but they already have Harry Maguire who can do a similar job. It begs the question: what’s the thought process behind these acquisitions?”
