Sixteen-year-old tennis sensation Alina Korneeva had a strong start to the year in Australia, but has been absent from the court since then. She recently revealed the reason for her absence.
Korneeva, along with Mirra Andreeva and Brenda Fruhvirtova, made headlines by winning matches in the main draw of the Australian Open earlier this year. Following her successful run at the event, Korneeva played in two more tournaments before being sidelined due to injury on February 10th, 2024.
In a social media update, Korneeva shared that she had been dealing with wrist issues, leading to a decision to undergo surgery after consultations and failed rehabilitation attempts. She expressed gratitude for the support and stated that her focus is on returning stronger to the court, with hopes of being back for Wimbledon.
“I missed recent tournaments due to ongoing wrist issues since February. After tests revealed tendon instability, consultations and a successful surgery in Barcelona, a challenging rehabilitation period awaits.”
“The timeline for my return to the court is uncertain, but I am determined to come back stronger. Thank you for the unwavering support!”
While Korneeva’s return to the court remains unclear, prioritizing her health and recovery is essential for her development as a player. Addressing the wrist issue now will ensure she returns in optimal condition and continues to progress in her career.
