Tennis Canada releases official 2024 national event calendar

Over 70 events to take place across eight provinces

On Thursday, Tennis Canada released its official National Event Calendar for the 2024 season, confirming that over 70 events will be played across the country this year.

Set to return are the marquee Canadian Challenger events, including the National Bank Challengers in Calgary, Saguenay, Drummondville, Granby and Winnipeg. In addition, the Steve Stevens Masters Nationals will once again return to Toronto in August, where age divisions from over 30 all the way up to over 85 will compete against one another.

Fans across the country will have the opportunity to take in world-class tennis action throughout the year, with 26 events in Quebec, 20 in Ontario, 11 in British Columbia, eight in Alberta, three in Nova Scotia, three in Manitoba, two in New Brunswick, and one in Saskatchewan.

“This year’s event calendar is jam packed with great tournaments of all levels across the country, including juniors, masters, wheelchair and professional. This gives Canadian tennis fans a great opportunity to see tons of fantastic tennis action up close and personal,” said Ryan Borczon, Tennis Canada’s Director of Professional and National Events. “These tournaments always feature up-and-coming tennis players, homegrown Canadian players, and some of the best in wheelchair and masters tennis.”

NEW CHANGES ON THE SCHEDULE

There are two notable changes on the calendar this year. Firstly, a new venue in Quebec, Sani Sport Brossard, will host its first-ever pro event, a W15 tournament, on March 4-10. Additionally, the U16 Fischer Outdoor Junior Nationals in August will be hosted by the prestigious Granite Club in Toronto.

“Tennis Canada would like to thank everyone for their hard work and tireless efforts in organizing all of these different events,” said Richard Quirion, Tennis Canada’s Director of Professional and International Events for Quebec. “Each and every tournament plays a crucial role in the world-class competition structure we have built which in turn directly helps to develop Canadian prospects and grow the game.”

Meanwhile, Canada’s premier tennis event, the National Bank Open presented by Rogers, will again take place in early August, though fans are reminded that the WTA and ATP 1000 tournaments in Toronto and Montreal will start and end a day later than usual. Qualifying begins on Sunday, August 4 during IGA Family Weekend in Montreal and 407 ETR Family Weekend in Toronto, with main draw action due to commence on Tuesday, August 6 and the finals on Monday, August 12 in both cities. This schedule change is to provide players with ample travel and transition time from the tennis event at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris which takes place the previous week.
