The Houston Texans surpassed just about everyone’s expectations during the 2023 season, and after going 10-7 and making it to the divisional round of the playoffs, they’re considered a rising force in the NFL.
That was before they traded for star running back Joe Mixon and brought in four-time Pro Bowl pass-rusher Danielle Hunter, two players who should make them even more formidable.
On Thursday, they reportedly made another move, as they’re planning on signing cornerback C.J. Henderson, per Jeremy Fowler.

Henderson was the No. 9 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, and while he hasn’t lived up to expectations since, perhaps playing for an excellent young head coach in DeMeco Ryans will help improve his performance.
In 12 games in 2023 with the woeful Carolina Panthers, Henderson had three tackles for loss, two passes defended, and 1.0 sacks.
The Texans are seemingly set on offense — quarterback C.J. Stroud had a sensational rookie season, wide receivers Tank Dell and Nico Collins are studs, and Mixon will give them a solid threat in the backfield.
But their defense could use some improvement if they are to get to the next level in 2024.
They have focused on their front seven defensively in free agency so far, but they’re obviously a work in progress, especially given how young they are, and they’re already well ahead of schedule.
Even if the Texans take a slight step back this coming season, their future is still very bright, as they have a young core that is already the envy of the rest of the NFL.
