After a successful year in 2023, the Houston Texans appear set to compete for a Super Bowl much sooner than expected.

C.J. Stroud accelerated their rebuild by quickly establishing himself as a star in the league, while Will Anderson Jr. led a talented young defense.

Head coach DeMeco Ryans got his roster to buy in early and with that they were able to go a run that lends some optimism that they’ll be able to replicate that success once the 2024 NFL season begins.

Houston clearly saw the vision with its team as it invested in some offensive weapons, notably Stefon Diggs and Joe Mixon.

The Texans traded for the two veterans in hopes of giving Stroud more options to work with and the team should be better for it.

Offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik’s made a name for himself as one of the best playcallers in the league and he couldn’t help but gush over what he’s seen from Mixon so far via The Coachspeak Index.

“Workhorse. He’s an absolute workhorse, in every regard,” Slowik said.

Slowik had no shortage of kind words and praise for Mixon who he noted was ready to work and learn as soon as he got to Houston.

Slowik also goes on to mention that Mixon is willing to do whatever is asked of him which includes acting as a receiving option out of the backfield as well as a pass blocker.

From the sound of it, Mixon should have a large role on the offense and it’ll be interesting to see how much gas he has left in the tank.
