The BJK Cup Finals moved to Málaga for November in London

London | BJK Cup Finals relocates to Málaga in November

The Billie Jean King Cup Finals are being relocated to Málaga in Spain, and will run concurrently with the Davis Cup Finals in November.

I know that Málaga, just a two-hour drive from Sevilla, will deliver the exceptional atmosphere and passion that fans of the Billie Jean King Cup have come to know and love… We are set for a blockbuster fortnight of tennis this November and I can’t wait to welcome the tennis world to Málaga this November. The event was expected to be held in Seville, but will now be held alongside its men’s counterpart.

The team competition, previously known as the Fed Cup, will be played at the Palacio de Deportes Jose Maria Martin Carpena Arena from 13-20 November, and will be followed by the Davis Cup Final 8 from 19-24 November.

The scheduled dates for both competitions have not been altered.

“Our priority is to ensure the Billie Jean King Cup Finals continue seamlessly as the most exciting and unique women’s team tennis tournament on the 2024 calendar,” said Ilana Kloss, Chair of Billie Jean King Cup Ltd. “Málaga, just 130 miles from Sevilla, has been a fantastic host of the Davis Cup Final 8 since 2022 and we know that its world-class facilities and passionate fans will help create another unique and memorable world championship.”

Organisers for the ITF said that the change of venue was due to the requirements of host partner Junta de Andalucía, and supported by the City and Diputacion of Málaga, but did not expand on the reason, adding that existing ticket holders had been offered the chance to exchange tickets or receive a refund.

In a statement the ITF said that Málaga, with its outstanding facilities and vibrant community of sports fans, ensures the events’ continuity and creates a unique opportunity for tennis fans to experience the world’s best women’s and men’s players competing for their respective national teams to be crowned world champions in one city over two weeks.

Conchita Martinez, a five times Billie Jean King Cup Finals winner as a player and Captain and the competition’s Tournament Director, said: “I know that Málaga, just a two-hour drive from Sevilla, will deliver the exceptional atmosphere and passion that fans of the Billie Jean King Cup have come to know and love.

“We have informed all existing ticket holders of the changes, and will be reissuing tickets for the new location, with the option of refunds for those who require them.

“We are set for a blockbuster fortnight of tennis this November and I can’t wait to welcome the tennis world to Málaga this November.”
