The Burning Question Everyone Has About Shohei Ohtani

Everyone's Wondering The Same Thing About Shohei Ohtani

Shohei Ohtani is having himself quite the stretch run to close out his 2024 MLB season and recently became the first player in MLB history to put up 50 home runs and 50 steals in the same season, doing so in emphatic fashion against the Miami Marlins on Thursday.

Ohtani created the 50/50 club by going 6-for-6 with three home runs, two doubles, two stolen bases, and ten RBIs in the game, and after following up that dominant performance with another home run and a stolen base on Friday in his Los Angeles Dodgers win over the Colorado Rockies, he has fans wondering if he can keep going and create another new club.

A 50/50 season seemed unfathomable as recently as a few weeks ago, but after belting his 52nd home run and 52nd stolen base of the year on Friday, fans are now getting ideas of 60/60.

In order to get to 60/60, Ohtani will need to put up eight homers and eight steals over the team’s final eight games, which has never been done before.

Doing things that have never been done before is kind of Ohtani’s thing, so you can’t count him out given how scalding hot he has been at the plate recently.

He has an 1.120 OPS in September and five of the team’s remaining eight games are against the Rockies, including three in Colorado, so perhaps he has a few more three-homer games in him.

It’s important to enjoy what Ohtani is doing, because it may never happen again.

Most importantly of all, we’ll get to see him in the postseason for the first time this season.
