The clubs Jason Day and Lydia Ko used to win the first Grant Thornton Invitational

Jason Day Lydia Ko

Grant Thornton Invitational winners Jason Day and Lydia Ko made use of very different bag setups during their weekend triumph.

There was one notable similarity and that speaks to the quality and popularity of the club in question.

Day and Ko both use PING G430 LST drivers although the former uses a flatter loft deploying the 9 degree version of the engineering marvel that is Ping’s flagship driver.

When it comes to the rest of his bag, most of Day’s clubs come from his main gear sponsor TaylorMade.

Day is comfortable enough with the gaps between his 3-wood and 7-wood and starts his irons at 4 with a single TaylorMade P770. From 5-iron to Pitching Wedge Day turns to the TaylorMade P7MC range.

For the Grant Thornton Invitational he used a TaylorMade Ghost Spider Itsy Bitsy limited edition putter.

He deviates from TaylorMade again to turn to another PGA Tour favourite in Titleist Vokey Design wedges.

Ko’s setup shows how the distance off the tee should influence the type of clubs you put in your bag.

The other half of the Grant Thornton Invitational winning pair makes use of a driver, 3-wood, 5-wood, and a hybrid 4 for those longer approach shots. All of those options are drawn from the PING G430 range.

Most of Ko’s bag is filled by sponsor PING, except that she also uses Titleist Vokey Design wedges and a Scotty Cameron TourType SSS TG6 putter.
