Despite playing his first three holes 1 under Thursday, the first round of the 2024 British Open was a struggle for Tiger Woods. He carded six bogeys, two double bogeys and one birdie over his closing 15 holes and signed for an opening-round 8-over 79. If he wants to make the cut at Royal Troon, he’ll need something special on Friday.
After making it to the weekend at the Masters in April, Woods missed the cut at the PGA Championship and U.S. Open. He’s failed to earn weekend tee times in his two most recent Open starts (2019, 2022).

Shot 2: Tiger misses the green to the right with his approach shot and his ball is in the rough. Will need a good shot from there to make par.
Shot 3: From 25 yards, Tiger hits it too hard and ends up on the left-side fringe. He’ll have 30 feet for par.
Shot 4: His fourth shot sneaks by the hole and he’ll have four feet for bogey.
Shot 5: Yikes. Missed it.
Shot 6: Double. That was messy.
SCORE: 2 over through 2
Shot 1: That’s a good bounce-back swing. Tiger is in the fairway on No. 3.
Shot 2: From 141, Tiger finds the green with his second. It’ll be a lengthy birdie bid.
Shot 3: From 31 feet, his effort is a few feet short of pace.
Shot 4: Par.
SCORE: 2 over through 3
Shot 1: Woah, that’s a bomb! He’s in the fairway on the par 5.
Shot 2: His second shot came up short and right, and he’ll have just under 50 yards for his third.
Shot 3: There’s a nice shot, Tiger. He’ll have under 10 feet for birdie.
