Larry Hirsh, President of Golf Property Analysts, is an expert in appraising golf courses and facilities. Since opening his company in 1980, he and his team have conducted over 3,000 appraisals in 46 states, Canada, Scotland, Panama, and the Caribbean. A Penn State graduate with a liberal arts degree, Hirsh found his passion in evaluating commercial real estate properties, specifically golf courses.
Raised in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, Hirsh was introduced to golf at a young age by his father. He played competitively in high school and continues to enjoy playing the sport. With a USGA Handicap Index of 4.5, Hirsh has a lifelong love for golf, reflected in his ownership of a digital loft and lie machine, unique to a real estate appraiser.
As a groundbreaker in the field, Hirsh holds certifications in CRE, MAI, and SGA. Along with a friend, he co-founded the Society of Golf Appraisers in 1992. Despite the niche nature of his business, Hirsh continues to provide comprehensive and experienced appraisals for his clients, assisting with refinancing, legal disputes, property changes, and more.
Hirsh’s work involves a detailed economic analysis of each property, considering both physical characteristics and business operations. He finds gratification in helping clients navigate the complexities of the golf industry, with a focus on providing valuable and insightful services. His passion for golf extends beyond his career, as he is an avid player and course rater for publications like Golf Digest and Golfweek.
With a dedication to writing and educating others about the golf industry, Hirsh is the author of two books: “Golf Property Analysis and Valuation: The Modern Approach” and “The Culture of Golf: Isn’t It Just A Game?” He aims to share his knowledge and experience to further enhance the understanding of golf course valuation and operations.
Despite his retirement age, Hirsh remains committed to his work and the golf community. With a deep love for the sport and a desire to contribute to its future, he continues to make a meaningful impact in the industry.
