Knicks players Donte DiVincenzo and Josh Hart have developed a strong relationship, but their friendship had a rocky start back in 2015 when they first met at Villanova.
When DiVincenzo arrived at Villanova in 2015, he became roommates with Jalen Brunson and teammates with Hart. ESPN reports that Brunson and DiVincenzo initially bonded over their mutual dislike for Hart, with DiVincenzo admitting, “Josh will tell you, I hated him.” Despite initial tensions, the trio managed to win a national championship with Nova in 2016.
DiVincenzo recently shared on “The Roommates Show” podcast with Brunson and Hart about a heated incident with Hart during their early days at Villanova. DiVincenzo admitted to almost getting into a physical altercation with Hart in the weight room after Hart made derogatory comments, but the specifics of the argument were not disclosed.
Despite their past conflicts, DiVincenzo and Hart found common ground in the NBA, with DiVincenzo gaining a newfound understanding and appreciation for Hart’s character. Their history did not deter DiVincenzo from joining the Knicks last offseason, especially since Hart encouraged him to sign with the team.
Now, DiVincenzo, Hart, and Brunson have been key contributors for the Knicks in their playoff series against Philly, which they currently lead 2-0. Their journey has come full circle, showcasing their growth as teammates and friends both on and off the court.
