After making it to the Super Bowl back in February and coming up just short to the Kansas City Chiefs in overtime, the San Francisco 49ers were thought to be a legitimate title contender in the NFC once again this year, as they possessed arguably the most talent in the league on the offensive side of the football.
Unfortunately, things haven’t gone as planned for the defending NFC champions during the 2024 campaign thus far, with injuries taking a toll on this team right out of the gate.
The most significant loss for the 49ers was superstar running back Christian McCaffrey being unable to play to start the season, dealing with issues in both legs that led to a lot of concern from the team, which resulted in him missing the first seven games of the regular season thus far.
Although McCaffrey might be nearing his return to the gridiron in the coming weeks, the 49ers are dealing with some costly injuries on offense, with star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk being ruled out for the season after tearing his ACL and MCL while fellow star wideout Deebo Samuel is in the hospital with an illness.
Nick Wright of FOX Sports believes that if the 49ers don’t get a healthy McCaffrey back on the field, San Francisco won’t be a good team the rest of the way via First Things First.
“Without him, they’re just not that good,” Wright said.
In Week 7, the 49ers fell to the Chiefs in a Super Bowl rematch, marking the team’s fourth loss in seven games, which isn’t ideal for a team with Super Bowl title aspirations.
Only time will tell how things pan out for the 49ers, as the outlook for the rest of the season doesn’t look good if this team can’t get healthy and resemble the dominant team that made it to the big game last season.
