Even last weekend’s FA Cup triumph against fierce rivals Manchester City cannot hide the fact that Manchester United are desperately crying out for reinforcements in defence and midfield.
Injuries derailed their whole season while plenty of big-name stars also under-performed. New co-owners INEOS are looking to move on plenty of stars in preparation for the new season.
Raphael Varane has already announced he is leaving at the end of the season while Jonny Evans might not be offered a contract extension.
Both Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have both been linked with exits and more than one centre-back could be required to fill the void.
Juventus double raid
The midfield severely struggled to adapt to Erik ten Hag’s high-transition style and experienced stars like Casemiro and Christian Eriksen could be moved on this upcoming window.
The Red Devils were eyeing a double raid on Serie A giants Juventus with Gleison Bremer and Adrien Rabiot on their radar. The Brazilian’s price tag keeps rising but United continue to be mentioned as potential suitors.
The Frenchman has been a long-term target ever since the Dutch manager took over. The former PSG star’s contract with the Old Lady expires in June and a Bosman move makes a lot of sense considering the fraught financial situation at Old Trafford.
However, TMW have now claimed that Thiago Motta, who is the favourite to take over ahead of the new season, wants both to remain in Turin.
Not for sale
Rabiot has a fine relationship with the former midfielder, having spent considerable time together during their days in Paris.
“The “Not for sale” sign will be placed on two other pillars of the squad: Gleison Bremer and Adrien Rabiot.
“In recent weeks there has been strong pressure on the Brazilian defender from Premier League teams, the only ones willing to spend a lot of money, but a renewal for him is just around the corner, as is the case for the Frenchman.”
This could be a big blow for the 20-time English league champions who might be forced to consider alternatives for these two key positions.
