Thiago Silva signs contract with a new team

Thiago Silva agrees deal with new club

Chelsea’s woes continue as one of their most experienced players is set to leave this summer.

After suffering a 5-0 defeat to Arsenal and losing their FA Cup semi-final to Man City, Todd Boehly must be wondering what went wrong with Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

The team’s performance at the Etihad Stadium was lackluster, despite having had a full season to address any issues under the Argentinian coach.

With six games left in the 2023/24 Premier League campaign, Chelsea is 13 points away from a Europa League spot.

Thiago Silva’s Departure from Chelsea

While a Europa League finish is still within reach, Boehly likely expected a Champions League qualification at the very least.

Considering the substantial investment made in the squad, such expectations are not unreasonable, although Boehly must also take responsibility for constantly changing the squad.

There needs to be a period of stability before rational decisions can be made, and the internal turmoil may have played a role in Thiago Silva’s decision to leave Chelsea when his contract expires on June 30.

Goal reports that Silva has a verbal agreement with Fluminense, the club where he began his career and played between 2006 and 2009.

At 39 years old, Chelsea may have deemed him surplus to requirements, but his experience and leadership would have been valuable in their defense.

For now, Silva needs to focus on Chelsea’s remaining games and help the team achieve the best possible finish in the Premier League.
