Thomas Tuchel rejects Manchester United job offer after meeting with Sir Jim Ratcliffe, confirms Fabrizio Romano – Latest updates on Man United transfers

Thomas Tuchel interested in Man United job despite Barca interest - Man United News And Transfer News

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Thomas Tuchel has elected not to take up the Manchester United job after holding talks with co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

The former Chelsea and Bayern Munich manager emerged as a prime candidate to replace the under-fire Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag has borne the brunt of United’s extremely poor 2023/24 season and even the FA Cup triumph against Manchester City at Wembley seems to have done little to consolidate his position as United gaffer.

For more than two weeks now, club chiefs led by INEOS have been holding an end-of-season review, whose conclusions and results are expected to determine Ten Hag’s fate.

Amidst all this, it’s understood that United have maintained contact with representatives of potential replacements for the Dutchman including Gareth Southgate, Roberto De Zerbi, and Tuchel, just to mention some names.

The Tuchel links, in particular, were given more credence after a report covered by The Peoples Person earlier in the day relayed that Ratcliffe held talks with the German coach in Monaco last week.

It was stated that the two discussed Tuchel potentially taking over the reins from Ten Hag. In the meeting, Tuchel outlined his master plan for United, including improving a number of underperforming players such as Mason Mount and Jadon Sancho.

This information was soon after corroborated by Matt Lawton of The Times and The Daily Mail’s Mike Keegan.

Keegan went on ahead to point out that United’s end-of-season review is set for a definitive conclusion this week and considering Ratcliffe spoke with Tuchel, it looked like the latter was set to become the next man in the Old Trafford dugout.

However, according to Romano, this is not the case, and Tuchel will not manage United next season.

The Italian journalist revealed on X (formerly Twitter), “Thomas Tuchel NOT planning to take Man United job, he wants to take a break not coaching any club this summer.”

“Tuchel currently decided not to continue in talks with United after meeting in the recent weeks.”

“United, deciding on Erik ten Hag future soon.”

Options are dwindling for United, and in the event they choose to part ways with Ten Hag, it seems like a good chunk of time will need to be spent on identifying and landing the next manager.
