The Oklahoma City Thunder are on the verge of setting a slew of NBA records. The Thunder could reach the 70-win plateau, are set to set a new record for point differential, and could set a record for net rating, as well. In addition, Oklahoma City has already set the mark for best record against the opposing conference, as the Thunder have gone 28-1 against the Eastern Conference with one game remaining.
However, none of that is the goal for Thunder players. The only thing that matters for Oklahoma City is winning the 2025 NBA Finals.
“We don't care not one bit about any of those records,” Shai Gilgeous-Alexander said. “They mean something, but in the grand scheme, they don't. We're after one thing and one thing only. That's what's on our mind. Everything else we don't care about.”
Thunder wing Jalen Williams agreed with his MVP-candidate teammate.
“It's cool,” Williams said. “That stat stuff is more for y'all than it is for us. That's my only answer. Sorry.”
Thunder coach Mark Daigneault said the team is focused on using the remaining regular season games to continue to get better, while staying sharp for the upcoming playoffs.
“We improved tonight,” Daigneault said after his team defeated the Indiana Pacers on Saturday. “We haven't played small like that in a very long time. We dusted that off tonight very well. That could be something we have to go to. That's an example.”
