Tien Claims First ATP Title with Victory Over Norrie in Metz

Learner Tien’s 2025 season has reached a significant milestone as he clinched his inaugural ATP title at the Moselle Open in Metz. In an exhilarating final on Saturday, Tien showcased his resilience, overcoming a formidable challenge from British player Cameron Norrie. After losing the second set, Tien triumphed with a score of 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(6), recovering from a precarious 5-1 deficit in the deciding tiebreaker.

The 19-year-old talent rallied back in the tiebreaker, stringing together five consecutive points to gain a 6-5 lead. Although he faced a setback by missing his first championship point, Tien found his composure and seized his second opportunity, sealing the victory after a grueling two hours and ten minutes of play.

During the trophy presentation, Tien expressed his gratitude, stating, “I never take it for granted, just coming out here and competing. So holding this trophy just means the world to me, and I’m just really grateful. I want to thank my team, the ones that are here, the ones that are at home, for all the support, for everything this whole year and always.”

With this impressive victory in Metz, Tien ascended to a career-high ranking of No. 28 in the ATP standings, positioning himself well for the upcoming Australian Open, where he is likely to be seeded. As the season draws to a close, there remains one tournament on his calendar, contingent on his decision to participate. Currently, Tien is ranked No. 3 in the race for the NextGen ATP Finals, trailing only Jakub Mensik and Joao Fonseca. After finishing as the runner-up to Fonseca at last year’s event, Tien may opt to compete in Jeddah, aiming to improve upon his previous performance.
