Charlie Woods is still a few years short of his 18th birthday yet thousands of golf fans are already invested in his game.
But while Tiger Woods‘ son looks to forge a successful career of his own, his daughter Sam is the opposite and is uninterested in taking up golf.
Woods explained why Sam, now 16 years old, doesn’t want to involve herself in the sport while speaking to Carson Daly on the Today Show.
“She has a negative connotation to the game,” he said. “When she was growing up, golf took daddy away from her. I had to pack, I had to leave and I was gone for weeks. So, there were negative connotations to it.
“So, we developed our own relationship and our own rapport outside of golf. We do things that don’t involve golf. Meanwhile, my son and I, everything we do is golf-related.”

Charlie Woods looking to forge golf path, but Sam is uninterested
This is not to say that Sam has removed herself from the sport completely, or her father’s career. She delivered an emotional speech on stage when Woods was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2022.
At the most recent PNC Championship in December, where stars of the game play in a pairs format with a family member, Sam caddied for her father while he teed it up with Charlie.
Ever since Charlie played in the PNC Championship for the first time in 2020, golf fans have been locked into his progress. He has circulated various junior golf events in Florida over the last 12 months while, recently, he tried and failed to qualify for the 2024 US Open in local qualifying at The Legacy Golf and Tennis Club in Port St. Lucie.
He was also pictured at the Masters walking with his father and helping him with his swing on the driving range. Woods made the cut and finished 60th and he still plans to play in the next three major championships spread across the next three months.
As well as talking about his children, Woods appeared on the Today Show primarily to promote Sun Day Red, his new clothing brand in conjunction with TaylorMade which officially launched today.
