TJ Houshmandzadeh Shares Insight on Russell Wilson’s Situation

The Pittsburgh Steelers are seemingly riding with veteran quarterback Russell Wilson as the starter this weekend as they welcome in Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets on Sunday night.

That’s at least what former NFL wide receiver and current analyst T.J. Houshmandzadeh said on Fox Sports’s The Facility today.

“I was told he’s 100% starting…Russell Wilson is the starter,” Houshmandzadeh said.

If this is the move that the Steelers are making, it is certainly an interesting one.

The team is tied for first place in the AFC North at 4-2 thanks in large part to the play of former first-round pick Justin Fields.

Fields has recorded 10 total touchdowns and just one interception through the six games that he has played in.

But, there is a reason why head coach Mike Tomlin is where he is in this profession.

He knows football and clearly believes in Wilson.

When it comes to Wilson himself, he has not played since his time ended in Denver last season.

He did throw 26 touchdowns and just eight interceptions in 2023 and with Pittsburgh seemingly having a better offensive unit on paper this year than the one that Denver had last year, perhaps the former Super Bowl champion could find some success in the Steel City.

It helps too that Pittsburgh has an elite defense.

Still, deciding to bring him back in a prime-time matchup against Aaron Rodgers and a hungry Jets squad is very intriguing.

Does he still have the ability to be elite in big moments?

Fans will get an answer to that question this Sunday night.
