After Tom Brady retired before the 2023 NFL season, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers made the decision to bring in veteran quarterback Baker Mayfield as his successor, a move that raised some eyebrows.

Fortunately, Mayfield exceeded expectations and revitalized his career in Tampa Bay, guiding the team to the NFL playoffs.

Following Mayfield’s impressive performance, the Buccaneers signed him to a lucrative long-term contract, and after five games into the 2024 NFL season, Tampa Bay appears to be a formidable contender once again.

However, the team has suffered losses in two of its last three games, including a heartbreaking defeat to division-rival Atlanta Falcons in overtime.

In their pursuit of another postseason run, the Buccaneers are exploring ways to enhance their roster, which could involve re-signing linebacker Devin White, a Super Bowl champion recently released by the Philadelphia Eagles.

Despite the possibility of White’s return, head coach Todd Bowles mentioned that he has not had the chance to consider a reunion as the team prepares to face the New Orleans Saints in Week 6.

“I’ve not been in contact with him, especially this week, my hands have been kind of full,” Bowles stated via Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times. “We consider everybody. We see what we come up with and how many injuries come along. Me and [general manager Jason Licht] will talk every day, and, you know, if there’s something that comes up, we’ll take a look at it. Obviously, he’s played here before. He has a lot of history, but we’ve kind of had our hands this week to worry about anything else on the outside.”

Bowles appears receptive to the idea of adding White back to the team, and it remains to be seen how this potential addition could bolster the defense and boost Tampa Bay’s postseason aspirations.
