Ever since quarterback Tom Brady left New England for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020, the Patriots have had a gaping hole at the position.
Initially, it looked like Mac Jones would be the answer.
During his rookie year in 2021, Jones passed for just over 3,800 yards and 22 touchdowns while leading New England to the playoffs.
Unfortunately, the Jones magic couldn’t continue the next two years and he was traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars in March.
Former University of North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye was selected with the Pats’ third overall pick in the 2024 draft in the hopes that he can replicate Brady.
Recently, Brady himself shared his thoughts about Maye, via “Savage Sports.”
“I’m very fortunate to be around him and I like him a lot,” said Brady. “I’ve heard great things about him, but you know his opportunity is going to be really what he makes of it and how he wants to develop it and how he wants to attack his profession like we all do.”

He then added, “It’s not where you’re at when you’re 22, it’s who you’re around when you’re 22 (the age Maye will be when the 2024 season begins).”
Brady continued to say that he was surrounded by great coaches and talented veteran quarterbacks that helped him become the player he developed into.
The seven-time Super Bowl champion then added that he believes players today don’t have the same access to great teaching because of less time with coaches.
In his opinion, that’s a major issue for young players and is a practice that Brady hopes will be rectified sooner rather than later.
