Macdonald has spent the past decade with a Harbaugh. He spent seven seasons (2014 to 2020) with John in Baltimore, starting as a defensive intern and working his way up to defensive assistant, defensive backs coach and then linebackers coach. John’s brother, Jim, poached Macdonald for a season at Michigan to serve as the Wolverines’ defensive coordinator; he helped develop star pass-rusher and 2022 No. 2 draft pick Aidan Hutchinson. Macdonald then went back to Baltimore to be the Ravens’ defensive coordinator. Over the past two seasons, Baltimore’s defense has ranked among the top five in total yards, rushing yards, scoring, opponent third-down conversion rate and defensive red-zone touchdown rate, putting Macdonald in a prime position to take another step in his career.
