Top Five Highlights (Or Lowlights) in Baseball This Week, June 14

Five Things I Liked (Or Didn’t Like) This Week, June 14

Welcome to another edition of Five Things I Liked (Or Didn’t Like) This Week. Last week, I was feeling a bit under the weather, which gave me the perfect excuse to sit back and watch some baseball. Despite not feeling my best, I was treated to some exciting series and matchups in the world of baseball. From star players going head-to-head to baserunning hijinks and defensive blunders, there was no shortage of entertainment on the field. Let’s dive into some of the highlights from the past week:

1. **Shohei’s Learning Curve:**
The showdown between Paul Skenes and Shohei Ohtani was as thrilling as expected. Skenes, known for his power pitching, decided to challenge Ohtani with his best pitches. And Ohtani, known for his power hitting, was no match for Skenes’ fastball. While Ohtani initially struggled, he eventually found his rhythm, proving that even the best pitchers can falter against elite hitters like Ohtani.

2. **Royals Baserunning Adventures:**
Bobby Witt Jr. and MJ Melendez showcased their baserunning skills in impressive fashion. Witt’s quick thinking and instincts allowed him to evade a potential out, while Melendez turned a sure out into a breathtaking run with his sheer athleticism. The Royals may be facing challenges in other areas of the game, but their baserunning highlights are worth watching.

3. **Easy Steals of Home:**
The Milwaukee Brewers demonstrated their aggressive baserunning tactics, capitalizing on opponents’ mistakes to score runs. Christian Yelich made stealing home look effortless, while Brice Turang walked home thanks to a smart read on the play. The Brewers’ ability to exploit defenses and take advantage of every opportunity sets them apart on the basepaths.

4. **Giving Up Stylishly:**
In a game against the Braves, Nick Senzel found himself in a tough spot and made a unique decision to slide short of the base rather than risk a collision. While unconventional, Senzel’s slide was a smart move in a situation where there was no chance of escaping an out. This play highlighted the importance of safety and strategic thinking in baseball.

Despite facing challenges, these moments of brilliance and creativity on the field remind us why baseball is such a captivating sport. Stay tuned for more exciting matchups and performances in the world of baseball.
