Top PGA Tour players set to compete against LIV Golf’s biggest names in thrilling Las Vegas showdown – Golf News

Rory McIlroy says he was beaten by wind at Troon - Golf News

Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy are set to go up against Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka in a special 18-hole match in Las Vegas later this year. The event is being billed as a showdown between the PGA Tour and the LIV Golf League.

The match will be broadcast on TNT, continuing the tradition of ‘The Match’ series which began in 2018 with a match between Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. Most recently, Rory McIlroy competed against Max Homa, Rose Zhang, and Lexi Thompson in February.

“I’m excited to team up with Scottie for what promises to be an exciting battle against Bryson and Brooks in Vegas this December,” said McIlroy.

“This isn’t just a battle between golf’s major champions; it’s a show designed to excite the fans. We’re all here to entertain and be part of a special event that brings the best together once again,” McIlroy added.

McIlroy has participated in two editions of The Match and various other made-for-TV exhibitions. Scheffler is making his debut in exhibition golf after a successful season that included winning the Olympic gold medal and seven PGA Tour events, including the Masters and the Tour Championship.

The match comes at a time when the PGA Tour is under pressure to finalize a merger agreement with LIV Golf’s financial backers, the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund. The agreement, first made in June last year, has not yet brought the two parties together.
