In MLB, when an injured player is deemed healthy to play in games, he is allotted a specific number of rehab days to give him time to get back to full speed.

Once that time passes, the team will need to make a roster move to include the player on the active roster or officially send him to the minor leagues for more seasoning, or just to wait until a spot in MLB opens up.

This is what the New York Yankees did with Jasson Dominguez in their recent set of roster moves.

“Prior to tonight’s game, the Yankees made the following roster moves: • Returned OF Jasson Domínguez from his rehab assignment, reinstated him from the 60-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. • Transferred INF Jon Berti to the 60-day injured list,” the club tweeted.

Dominguez has accumulated 21 rehab games between Single-A, Double-A, and Triple-A as part of his rehab from elbow surgery performed in September.

Results-wise, the rehab stint has been magnificent: he has six home runs between the three levels and a minimum OPS of .982 in each step of the way.

In other words, he is just about ready to return when the Yankees see fit.

The problem is that, with Aaron Judge, Juan Soto, Giancarlo Stanton, Trent Grisham, and Alex Verdugo all healthy, there is no room for him at the moment.

That’s why the Yankees optioned him to Triple-A instead of bringing him up.

Don’t worry: you will see the “Martian” back up at some point, and he is expected to produce.
