Top-ranked player continues dominating streak with victory at Wimbledon as tournament’s top seed

Jannik Sinner is one of the favorites to win Wimbledon, and he started off his 2024 campaign with a pretty confident win.

Jannik Sinner arrived in London on a winning streak. He had played amazing tennis in Halle, where he won his first trophy as a reigning world number one. The Italian continued his winning streak today by comfortably winning his first match at Wimbledon.

The streak is now at five matches as Sinner added a second win over Hanfmann in his career. They played last year at the US Open, and it was an easy win for Sinner, and this one wasn’t that hard for him either. The start was somewhat competitive, but Sinner broke his opponent midway through the opening set to take a 5-2 lead.

After a pretty balanced set, he would finish off the set 6-3. Hanfmann wasn’t bad, but he wasn’t clearly sharp enough to give Sinner too many troubles. The second set was fairly similar in that regard. The Italian took a break once more and comfortably closed out the set 6-4 for the most part.

He played more aggressively in this one, and it was a response to Hanfmann’s playing pretty well. The German had 5 break points but didn’t use any of them, which was unfortunate as Sinner used the only one he had.

Sinner’s third set wasn’t very good. He started a bit shaky, which Hanfmann used to take an early lead. From there, the German only grew in confidence, ultimately winning the third set 6-3. Things were getting interesting as Hanfmann was playing much better.

Still, Sinner understood the assignment, and he raised his level once more to finish off things with a solid 4th set. The final score was 6-3 6-4 3-6 6-3.
