While Tottenham managed to retain Christian Romero during the summer transfer window, opportunities for his departure may arise in 2026. Former scout Bryan King disclosed that the club might entertain an offer around £60 million for the defender, although there is currently no intention for him to leave the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
“Romero recently signed an enhanced contract that significantly increased his earnings, positioning him among the highest-paid players at Tottenham. It will not be easy for Atletico Madrid, or any club, to lure him away,” King noted.
“A transfer fee in the range of £60-70 million is likely. His Argentinian nationality, coupled with Diego Simeone’s interest, won’t influence the terms much. If Spurs decide against selling, only a substantial offer will change that,” he added.
The Significance of Cristian Romero to Tottenham
Although Micky van de Ven has received considerable acclaim since joining Tottenham, it is arguable that Romero’s contribution is even more crucial. He has consistently performed at a high level for several seasons, meaning his exit would deal a significant blow to the team.
