Tottenham’s Bid for Yan Diomande Rejected by RB Leipzig
Fabrizio Romano has disclosed that Tottenham Hotspur made a serious attempt to acquire RB Leipzig’s standout talent, Yan Diomande, during the current January transfer window, but were turned away by the German team.
The 19-year-old Ivorian winger has become a highly sought-after player in Europe this season, capturing attention with his dynamic performances in the Bundesliga.
This month, Tottenham made a formal inquiry to Leipzig as they sought to strengthen their attacking lineup for the latter part of the season. However, Leipzig’s response was clear: Yan Diomande will not be leaving the club in January.
On his YouTube channel, Romano stated, “Tottenham attempted to make a move this January, but it was unsuccessful. There will be considerable interest in Diomande, who is one of the standout wingers on the market right now, but Leipzig intends to keep him for the month.”
Leipzig, known for developing and eventually selling talented players at high prices, wants to retain Diomande to help them achieve their goals domestically and in European competitions this season.
While Spurs were eager to bring him to London to support their season’s ambitions, they have accepted that a mid-season transfer is not feasible.
Looking Ahead to Summer
Although Tottenham’s current efforts have stalled, the competition for Diomande is expected to intensify when the summer transfer window opens.
Romano mentioned that the competition will be fierce, stating, “Leipzig’s message is clear: Diomande will not depart in January. They want to retain their player.” He added that come summer, clubs like Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, and Bayern Munich are likely to be in the mix for the young star.
Diomande has been recognized as “one of the most intriguing wingers available,” praised for his incredible speed and technical skills.
With major clubs such as Bayern Munich and PSG interested in his signature, Tottenham is expected to face tougher competition in July than they would have encountered in January.
Leipzig reportedly values Diomande around €100 million, making it clear that offers in the range of €60-70 million would fall short for this emerging talent.
Yan Diomande’s Performance at RB Leipzig
This season, the 19-year-old has played 17 matches, tallying 7 goals and 4 assists in all competitions.
His speed, dribbling ability, and technical prowess have established him as one of the most promising attacking players in the Bundesliga.
