NFL Week 17 Injury Tracker

Detroit Lions at Dallas Cowboys (Saturday)

  • Lions: TE Brock Wright, OUT (hip); EDGE James Houston, OUT (ankle); CB Cameron Sutton, QUESTIONABLE (toe); S C.J. Gardner-Johnson, OUT (pectoral)
  • Cowboys: RB Rico Dowdle, OUT (ankle); OT Tyron Smith, QUESTIONABLE (back); EDGE Villami Fehoko, QUESTIONABLE (knee); DT Johnathan Hankins, OUT (knee/ankle)

LionsDetroit added Sutton to its injury report on Thursday, suggesting the veteran CB was injured during practice. He didn’t participate today and may be unable to play against Dallas on Saturday.

Houston and Gardner-Johnson are still on injured reserve (IR) but have been designated to return. Neither will play in Week 17.

Cowboys: Dowdle has been battling an ankle injury for weeks. He was downgraded to DNP on Wednesday and ruled out on Thursday.

Head coach Mike McCarthy had expressed optimism that Hankins could face Detroit this week, but the run-stopping DT won’t play on Saturday. Smith returned for a limited practice on Thursday, giving him a chance to suit up in Week 17.

New England Patriots at Buffalo Bills

  • Patriots: RB Ezekiel Elliott (illness); WR JuJu Smith-Schuster (ankle); WR Kayshon Boutte (personal); TE Hunter Henry (ankle); OT Trent Brown (illness); EDGE Anfernee Jennings (illness); DT Christian Barmore (knee); LB Ja’Whaun Bentley (knee); CB Jonathan Jones (knee); CB Myles Bryant (chest); CB Shaun Wade (hip); S Jabrill Peppers (hamstring); S Jalen Mills (concussion); ST Matthew Slater (hamstring)
  • Bills: RB Ty Johnson (shoulder); EDGE A.J. Epenesa (rib); EDGE Shaq Lawson (illness); LB Terrel Bernard (ankle); S Micah Hyde (neck stinger); S Damar Hamlin (shoulder); LS Reid Ferguson (right thumb)

PatriotsNew England placed RB Rhamondre Stevenson on IR on Thursday. He’d already already missed three games with a high ankle sprain.

There was little reason for New England to bring Stevenson back at this point in the season, especially with the playoffs out of reach. Elliott will continue to dominate the Patriots’ backfield touches once he feels better.

Smith-Schuster and Henry missed the Patriots’ Week 16 win over the Denver Broncos. Smith-Schuster was limited on Wednesday before being downgraded to DNP on Thursday. Henry was limited both days.

Bills: Lawson was the only Buffalo player not practicing on Thursday. Johnson, Hyde, and Epenesa all missed Week 16 but managed limited participation in today’s session.

Atlanta Falcons at Chicago Bears

  • Falcons: OT Kaleb McGary, QUESTIONABLE (knee)
  • Bears: WR Darnell Mooney, OUT (concussion); TE Cole Kmet, QUESTIONABLE (knee); OL Lucas Patrick, QUESTIONABLE (knee)

FalconsAtlanta is one of the league’s healthiest teams as the season comes to a close. McGary was the only Falcon who was limited on Friday.

Bears: Mooney never practiced this week and won’t play in Week 17. Rookie WR Tyler Scott and veteran Equanimeous St. Brown could see additional time opposite DJ Moore.

Now dealing with a knee injury after battling a quad issue leading into Week 16, Kmet didn’t practice early in the week but returned for a limited Friday session. Robert Tonyan and Marcedes Lewis are next on the Bears’ TE depth chart.

On the plus side, RB D’Onta Foreman fully practiced this week after missing Sunday’s game with a personal issue.

Las Vegas Raiders at Indianapolis Colts

  • Raiders: RB Josh Jacobs (quad); WR DJ Turner (shoulder); TE Michael Mayer (groin); OT Kolton Miller (shoulder); OT Jermaine Eluemunor (knee); C Andre James (ankle); EDGE Maxx Crosby (knee); EDGE Malcolm Koonce (ribs)
  • Colts: RB Zack Moss, OUT (forearm); WR D.J. Montgomery (groin); LB Cameron McGrone (illness); LB Segun Olubi (hip)

RaidersJacobs hasn’t played in either of Las Vegas’ last two tilts, but he was a game-time decision leading into the Raiders’ Christmas Day defeat of the Kansas City Chiefs.

He’s trending toward another game-time call in Week 17. Jacobs has yet to practice this week and could have difficulty suiting up on Sunday if he doesn’t get any practice work on Friday. Backup Vegas RB Zamir White handled 20+ touches in Weeks 15 and 16.

Mayer is the only other Raider not practicing, and head coach Antonio Pierce suggested Friday the rookie TE will not play against the Colts. Austin Hooper and Zach Gentry will be in line for extra work if Mayer doesn’t play.

Colts: WR Michael Pittman Jr. sat out of Week 16 with a concussion but returned for a limited Wednesday practice before fully participating on Thursday. He should resume his WR1 role against Cowboys corners Stephon Gilmore and DaRon Bland.

Moss never practiced this week after missing the Colts’ Week 16 loss to the Falcons. Jonathan Taylor will continue to handle his usual workload.

Los Angeles Rams at New York Giants

  • Rams: OL Joe Noteboom (foot); DB Tre Tomlinson (hamstring)
  • Giants: WR Wan’Dale Robinson, QUESTIONABLE (quad); TE Lawrence Cager, DOUBTFUL (groin); CB Deonte Banks, QUESTIONABLE (shoulder)

RamsLos Angeles remains one of the healthiest teams in the league. Noteboom was limited on Thursday, while Tomlinson didn’t practice.

Giants: Robinson sandwiched a Thursday DNP with limited Wednesday and Friday sessions. Other skill-position players like RB Saquon Barkley and TE Darren Waller were listed on New York’s early-week injury report but won’t carry designations into Sunday’s game.

Arizona Cardinals at Philadelphia Eagles

  • Cardinals: QB Kyler Murray (illness); WR Marquise Brown (heel); EDGE Jonathan Ledbetter (knee); DT Kevin Strong (knee); DT Leki Fotu (hand); LB Zaven Collins (ankle); LB Victor Dimukeje (foot); LB Owen Pappoe (ankle); CB Garrett Williams (knee); S Andre Chachere (shoulder); DB Bobby Price (quad)
  • Eagles: LB Nicholas Morrow (abdomen); LB Zach Cunningham (knee); CB Darius Slay (knee)

CardinalsMurray didn’t practice on Wednesday or Thursday, but illnesses rarely keep NFL players out of games. The veteran quarterback participated in Friday’s practice, while head coach Jonathan Gannon said Murray will start against the Eagles in Week 17.

Meanwhile, Arizona on Friday placed WR Marquise Brown on IR, ending his season as he continues to fight a heel injury that’s been bothering him for weeks. Brown, a pending free agent, will finish the 2023 campaign with 51 catches for 574 yards and four touchdowns.

Eagles: Morrow, Cunningham, and Slay all missed Week 16. While the two LBs returned for limited practices on Wednesday, Slay still isn’t practicing. Fourth-round rookie CB Kelee Ringo is probably in line for another start.

New Orleans Saints at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

  • Saints: RB Kendre Miller (ankle); WR Chris Olave (ankle); OT Ryan Ramczyk (knee); C Erik McCoy (foot); EDGE Cameron Jordan (ankle); EDGE Isaiah Foskey (quad); EDGE Payton Turner (toe); S Jordan Howden (illness); S Lonnie Johnson (knee)
  • Buccaneers: TE Ko Kieft, OUT (shoulder); EDGE Shaquil Barrett, OUT (groin); CB Carlton Davis, OUT (concussion)

SaintsOlave was listed on New Orleans’ Week 16 injury report but ultimately suited up. He was limited on Wednesday and Thursday. Ramczyk and Johnson were the only Saints not practicing today.

Buccaneers: None of Tampa Bay’s injured players participated in this week’s practices in advance of a critical NFC South matchup against New Orleans. Joe Tryon-Shoyinka, Anthony Nelson, and Yaya Diaby will see more pass-rushing reps with Barrett sidelined, while Zyon McCollum will start at CB instead of Davis.

San Francisco 49ers at Washington Commanders

  • 49ers: RB Jordan Mason (illness); WR Deebo Samuel (neck); WR Jauan Jennings (concussion); TE Ross Dwelley (ankle); OT Trent Williams (groin); OT Jaylon Moore (concussion); G Aaron Banks (toe); DT Arik Armstead (foot/knee); DT Javon Hargrave (hamstring); LB Oren Burks (knee); CB Ambry Thomas (knee/hand); S Ji’Ayir Brown (knee)
  • Commanders: QB Jacoby Brissett, QUESTIONABLE (hamstring); OT Charles Leno Jr., OUT (calf); OT Andrew Wylie, QUESTIONABLE (elbow); C Tyler Larsen, OUT (knee); CB Kendall Fuller, OUT (knee); CB Benjamin St-Juste (concussion); S Percy Butler, OUT (wrist)

49ersSamuel was limited on Wednesday and isn’t in danger of missing Week 17. The same can’t be said for Jennings, who needs to exit the NFL’s concussion protocol before playing.

Dwelley, Banks, Moore, Armstead, and Brown joined Jennings in failing to practice today.

Commanders: Brissett was supposed to start on Sunday after relieving the benched Sam Howell in each of Washington’s last two games. But Brissett picked up a hamstring injury during practice and is now uncertain to play, so Howell might get another start.

RB Brian Robinson Jr. returned to practice this week after missing the Commanders’ last two games with a hamstring injury. He’ll reclaim his starting role in Washington’s backfield against the 49ers. Fellow RB Chris Rodriguez Jr., who scored two TDs in Robinson’s Week 16 absence, was sent to season-ending IR on Thursday.

Elsewhere on the Commanders’ roster, Cornelius Lucas will replace Leno at left tackle, while first-round rookie Emmanuel Forbes will be part of the cadre filling in for Fuller and St-Juste at corner.

Carolina Panthers at Jacksonville Jaguars

  • Panthers: OT Ikem Ekwonu, QUESTIONABLE (foot); EDGE Marquis Haynes, QUESTIONABLE (back); LB Frankie Luvu, QUESTIONABLE (quad); CB Jaycee Horn, QUESTIONABLE (toe); CB Troy Hill, OUT (concussion)
  • Jaguars: QB Trevor Lawrence (right shoulder); WR Zay Jones (knee/hamstring); TE Brenton Strange (foot); OL Walker Litte (hamstring); OL Cam Robinson (knee); OL Ezra Cleveland (knee); CB Tyson Campbell (quad); S Andre Cisco (groin)

PanthersHill is the only player ruled out ahead of Sunday’s game. Jeremy Chinn or Jammie Robinson could replace Hill in the slot against Jacksonville.

Jaguars: Lawrence has been incredibly banged up in recent weeks and is now battling a shoulder injury. He did not practice on Wednesday or Thursday and has not committed to playing against Carolina on Sunday. C.J. Beathard will start if Lawrence can’t go.

“You never know how things are going to heal up and how quickly you’re going to recover, but right now it’s still pretty sore and still kind of working through the beginning stages of getting back,” Lawrence said Wednesday. “We’ll kind of see how it goes.”

Jones missed last week’s game but managed limited practices on Wednesday and Thursday, so he might be trending in the right direction for Week 17.

Miami Dolphins at Baltimore Ravens

  • Dolphins: QB Tua Tagovailoa (left thumb/quad); RB Raheem Mostert (ankle/knee); RB De’Von Achane (toe); WR Tyreek Hill (ankle/vet rest); WR Jaylen Waddle, OUT (ankle); WR Robbie Chosen (concussion); OT Terron Armstead (knee/ankle/back); OT Austin Jackson (oblique); G Robert Hunt (hamstring); OL Liam Eichenberg (calf/ankle); EDGE Andrew Van Ginkel (wrist); EDGE Emmanuel Ogbah (hamstring); S Jevon Holland (knees)
  • Ravens: WR Zay Flowers (calf); OT Patrick Mekari (concussion); G Kevin Zeitler (knee/quad); LB Del’Shawn Phillips (shoulder); CB Brandon Stephens (ankle); CB Jalyn Armour-Davis (concussion); CB Arthur Maulet (knee); S Kyle Hamilton (knee); P Jordan Stout (back)

Dolphins: None of Tagovailoa, Mostert, Achane, or Hill is in danger of missing Sunday’s battle for the No. 1 seed in the AFC. Mostert hasn’t been practicing, while the others have been limited.

Meanwhile, Waddle has failed to practice this week and will be sidelined against Baltimore. While head coach Mike McDaniel indicated Waddle’s high ankle sprain isn’t severe, he’ll miss at least one game. Cedrick Wilson Jr., Braxton Berrios, and Chase Claypool could be in for more targets alongside Hill.

Ravens: Flowers, limited by a foot injury heading into Week 16, is now batting a quad injury and did not practice on Wednesday or Thursday. He returned to practice on Friday, but we’ll need to see the rookie WR’s game designation. If Flowers can’t suit up, Odell Beckham Jr. and Rashod Bateman will be in line for additional targets.

Tennessee Titans at Houston Texans

  • Titans: WR Chris Moore (ribs); G Daniel Brunskill (ankle); C Aaron Brewer (knee/ankle); EDGE Caleb Murphy (shoulder); DL Marlon Davidson (groin); CB Caleb Farley (back); CB Sean Murphy-Bunting (hip)
  • Texans: WR Noah Brown (knee); G Shaq Mason (calf); EDGE Will Anderson Jr. (ankle); EDGE Jonathan Greenard (ankle); DT Sheldon Rankins (ankle); DT Maliek Collins (hip); LB Blake Cashman (hamstring); LB Denzel Perryman (ankle); CB Steven Nelson (foot/hamstring/hand)

Titans: Rookie QB Will Levis, who missed Sunday’s game with an ankle injury, fully participated. Brewer is the only Titan not practicing.

Texans: QB C.J. Stroud returned to a limited practice on Wednesday after missing Houston’s last two games with concussion symptoms. He fully practiced Thursday and will start against the Texans on Sunday.

Houston’s list of Thursday DNPs includes five defensive starters: Anderson, Greenard, Rankins, Collins, and Nelson.

Pittsburgh Steelers at Seattle Seahawks

  • Steelers: QB Kenny Pickett (ankle); RB Najee Harris (knee); LB Elandon Roberts (pectoral); S Minkah Fitzpatrick (knee)
  • Seahawks: RB Kenneth Walker III (shoulder/illness); WR DK Metcalf (back); WR Dee Eskridge (ribs); OT Jason Peters (foot); G Anthony Bradford (elbow); EDGE Mario Edwards (knee); DT Dre’Mont Jones (shoulder); LB Nick Bellore (knee); LB Jordyn Brooks (ankle); CB Devon Witherspoon (hip); S Jamal Adams (knee)

SteelersPickett hasn’t played since undergoing ankle surgery earlier this month. He’s been limited in practice and feels ready to return, but Mason Rudolph — Pittsburgh’s Week 16 starter — is taking first-team reps during this week’s preparations.

“It feels like I’m on track with what I need to do,” Pickett said Wednesday. “It’s really not how I feel. It’s what they see me doing and how they feel like I’m moving around and everything.”

Pickett is close to full strength, but head coach Mike Tomlin announced on Friday that Rudolph will make another start on Sunday. It remains unclear if Pickett will be active as Rudolph’s backup.

Harris was limited today but is expected to be fine for Week 17. That’s not true of Fitzpatrick, who sat out Week 16 with a knee issue and did not participate in Wednesday’s practice.

Seahawks: Walker failed to practice on Wednesday and Thursday, but Seattle is among the NFL’s most liberal teams regarding days off. We’ll need to monitor Walker’s participation on Friday.

The Seahawks added Metcalf to their injury report on Thursday, suggesting he may have been injured during practice. As with Walker, Metcalf’s Friday status will bear watching.

Los Angeles Chargers at Denver Broncos

  • Chargers: WR Keenan Allen (heel); WR Josh Palmer (concussion); TE Nick Vannett (back); OT Trey Pipkins (wrist); EDGE Joey Bosa (foot); LB Kenneth Murray Jr. (shoulder); CB Deane Leonard (heel)
  • Broncos: RB Dwayne Washington (illness); WR Courtland Sutton (concussion); WR Marvin Mims Jr. (hamstring); TE Greg Dulcich (hamstring/foot); EDGE Baron Browning (concussion)

Chargers: Allen has missed two weeks with a heel injury and has yet to practice this week, a troubling sign for his Week 17 availability. Palmer also failed to participate on Wednesday or Thursday. Quentin Johnston, Jalen Guyton, and Alex Erickson will see more time in L.A.’s starting lineup if Allen and Palmer don’t play on Sunday.

Broncos: Sutton did not practice on Wednesday or Thursday after suffering a brain injury in Denver’s Week 16 loss to the Patriots. He must exit the NFL’s concussion protocol before practicing or playing.

2023 is shaping as a lost season for Dulcich, who’s in the midst of his second IR stint and is now dealing with multiple injuries. The Broncos may not see much reason to activate the second-year TE now that they’re out of the playoff picture.

Cincinnati Bengals at Kansas City Chiefs

  • Bengals: WR Ja’Marr Chase, QUESTIONABLE (shoulder); CB Jalen Davis, QUESTIONABLE (groin)
  • Chiefs: RB Isiah Pacheco (concussion/shoulder); RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire, QUESTIONABLE (illness); WR Kadarius Toney, OUT (hip); OT Donovan Smith, OUT (neck); G Trey Smith (ankle/knee); CB L’Jarius Sneed, QUESTIONABLE (calf)

BengalsChase suffered a shoulder injury in Week 15 and didn’t play in Week 16. He participated in Cincinnati’s Wednesday walkthrough but was not present for the portion of the club’s practice open to the media. Instead, Chase worked on a side field catching passes from a Bengals trainer; he threw the ball back with his left arm to avoid stress on his right shoulder.

While he was listed as a Wednesday DNP, Chase was upgraded to limited on Thursday. Given how he discussed the Chiefs’ defense on Thursday, Chase appears ready to return for a must-win Week 17 game.

Chase was limited again on Friday and is officially listed as questionable to face the Chiefs. Asked whether Chase will play, head coach Zac Taylor said, “We’ll see.”

Meanwhile, the Bengals activated CB Cam Taylor-Britt from IR on Friday, giving the club their top cornerback for a matchup against Patrick Mahomes.

Chiefs: Pacheco didn’t practice on Wednesday or Thursday after leaving Kansas City’s Week 16 defeat with a concussion. Jerick McKinnon is already on IR, leaving Edwards-Helaire as the Chiefs’ de facto starting RB if Pacheco cannot clear the NFL’s concussion protocol by Sunday. CEH didn’t participate on Thursday but should be ready for Week 17.

Third-round rookie Wanya Morris will make his fourth consecutive start at left tackle in place of Smith. Meanwhile, Sneed is Kansas City’s top corner and would represent a significant loss against Chase and Tee Higgins.

Green Bay Packers at Minnesota Vikings (SNF)

  • Packers: RB Emanuel Wilson, DOUBTFUL (shoulder); WR Christian Watson, DOUBTFUL (hamstring); WR Dontayvion Wicks, QUESTIONABLE (chest/ankle); TE Luke Musgrave, DOUBTFUL (kidney); OT Luke Tenuta, DOUBTFUL (ankle); DT T.J. Slaton, QUESTIONABLE (knee/foot); LB De’Vondre Campbell, DOUBTFUL (neck); CB Robert Rochell, QUESTIONABLE (neck); S Darnell Savage, QUESTIONABLE (shoulder)
  • Vikings: WR Jordan Addison, QUESTIONABLE (ankle); WR Jalen Nailor, OUT (concussion); DT Jaquelin Roy, OUT (ankle); LB Troy Dye, QUESTIONABLE (wrist); CB Byron Murphy Jr., OUT (knee); CB Mekhi Blackmon, QUESTIONABLE (shoulder/illness); S Theo Jackson, OUT (toe)

Packers: Green Bay’s pass-catching corps is unquestionably banged up. Watson has been sidelined for three games by a hamstring injury and is unlikely to play this week. Wicks suffered an injury in Week 16 and was “very limited” on Friday, per head coach Matt LaFleur.

Fortunately, fellow WR Jayden Reed practiced this week after sitting out of Week 16 with toe and chest issues. He does not have an injury designation for Sunday’s must-win game.

Meanwhile, Musgrave is still on IR after lacerating his kidney in mid-November but returned to practice on Wednesday. Green Bay can activate him at any time.

Vikings: RB Alexander Mattison missed last week’s loss to the Lions while dealing with an ankle injury but will not carry an injury designation into Sunday’s game. Still, Ty Chandler may have passed Mattison in Minnesota’s RB pecking order.

Addison did not practice Wednesday after leaving Week 16’s game with an ankle injury. He returned for limited sessions on Thursday and Friday, giving him a chance to suit up against the Packers on SNF.

The Vikings also placed TE T.J. Hockenson and EDGE D.J. Wonnum on season-ending IR this week.
