Trent Alexander-Arnold expressed his deep affection for Liverpool, regardless of how he might be received when he steps onto the pitch at Anfield on Tuesday. The 27-year-old defender seems set to play for Real Madrid in their upcoming Champions League match after successfully recuperating from a hamstring injury.
This match marks a swift return to his childhood club following a protracted transfer process, during which some Liverpool supporters expressed their discontent over his departure.
In an interview with Prime Video Sport prior to the match, Alexander-Arnold remarked, “When the fixture was revealed, it felt inevitable that I’d end up facing Liverpool again.” He acknowledged the challenge the game presents, saying, “It’s a difficult matchup, but I’m looking forward to it.” He added that he would refrain from celebrating if he scores during the match.
Regarding the reactions he anticipates from Liverpool fans, he stated, “How I’m received is entirely up to them. I’ve got immense love for the club, and I will always cherish the opportunities and accomplishments we shared—those will stay with me forever.” He also emphasized that no matter the crowd’s response, his fondness for Liverpool will remain unchanged.
Moving to Madrid has reunited him with his England teammate Jude Bellingham, who played a significant role in his decision to join the club. “There was a lot of talk surrounding ‘agent Jude,'” he commented. “In his first season at Real, we’d catch up during England camps, and everyone was curious about life at the club. He shared just how extraordinary it was, with a commitment to victory that he had never experienced before. Given all of that, I reached a point where I knew I needed a fresh challenge—both personally and professionally.”
