The San Francisco 49ers had a tumultuous offseason filled with contract disputes, holdouts, and trade requests, but it didn’t seem to impact them much in Week 1 when they dismantled the New York Jets.

One of the most important situations was the Trent Williams holdout before he finally got a contract extension, and the veteran recently hinted at how long he believes he can play in the NFL.

In a recent interview on CBS, Williams was asked if he can play until he’s 40, and he said “I know that it can be done, and I want to do it.”

Williams was gifted a 2010 bottle of wine in the interview, which is the year he was drafted, and he received it because he gets better with age, just like the wine.

The star left tackle ended his holdout this offseason by signing a 3-year, $82.6 million extension just before the season began, and at 36 years old, this contract will get him close to the age of 40.

He is showing no signs of slowing down and his teammates speak as highly of him as a teammate possibly could, and thankfully, they won’t have to wonder about what a Niners offense would look like without him anymore.

San Francisco is in the middle of its championship window and has plenty of difficult contract decisions to make on the horizon, but luckily, Williams and wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk both got paid and solved a few of the team’s big issues.

Now that Williams got his bag, all the attention will soon turn to the contract situation of the man he protects for a living, Brock Purdy.
