Tsitsipas Bounces Back from Wimbledon Disappointment with Opening Victory in Olympic Preparation

Stefanos Tsitsipas started his 2024 Paris Olympics preparation with a strong victory over Hamad Medjedovic at the Swiss Open in Gstaad.

In a departure from his usual routine, Tsitsipas chose to compete in the ATP 250 tournament in Gstaad this time instead of going to Hamburg or taking time off.

This decision paid off as he defeated Medjedovic in straight sets, bouncing back from an early exit at Wimbledon and some lackluster performances earlier in the year.

The tournament’s location in a high-altitude winter resort town may have played to Tsitsipas’s strengths, particularly his powerful first serve, which proved effective in his first match.

Both players benefitted from the altitude in the first set, with strong serving leading to no breaks. Tsitsipas eventually edged out Medjedovic in a tight tie-break.

After taking the first set, Tsitsipas capitalized on a drop in Medjedovic’s performance to break early in the second set and secure a comfortable victory.

Tsitsipas sealed the match with a 7-6(6), 6-3 win, powered by 11 aces and 27 winners. His ability to save all five break points he faced proved crucial to his success.
