Tsitsipas Brothers Team Up To Seal The Win For Greece At Davis Cup

Stefanos Tsitsipas and his brother, Petros, stepped up and delivered the crucial point for Greece in the 2024 Davis Cup over Romania as the country won the tie 3-0.

Tennis is growing in Greece, and it’s all thanks to Stefanos Tsitsipas and Maria Sakkari. They have been great ambassadors for the sport for a while, and it’s having an effect.

Even on a national level, the country has been making moves, which this win over Romania proves. Tsitsipas played on Day 1 and won his match, giving the country the first point.

The second point was secured later in a close win by Aristotelis Thanos, making this doubles match really crucial. The Tsitsipas brothers stepped up and played a really decent match.

We’ve seen them grow as a pair, as they won their first trophy last year in Antwerp. It’s a great memory for both, as will be this match. They didn’t start well, as they struggled to find a rhythm early and also struggled on the return.

The first set went into a tiebreak, and the Romanians, Marius Copil and Victor Vlad Cornea, won 7-4. Things changed as the match went on because the Greeks found their rhythm and started to return much better.

One break was enough for them to win the second set 6-3 and send the match into a decider. Pretty early on in the decider, the Greeks broke their opponents to take the lead and, from there, comfortably held their serve to finish off the match.

The final score was 6-7(3) 6-3 6-4, as the country won the tie overall 3-0. It was a hugely important win for the brothers and Greek tennis, as they have been trying to get out of World Group I for a long time.

Wins like this get them closer to that goal, as unrealistic as it might be. It’s Tsitsipas’ dream to lead them to the top level of national tennis.
