Tsitsipas Brothers Top List of Most Penalized Players at 2024 Roland Garros

Stefanos Tsitsipas and his younger brother Petros Tsitsipas will leave Roland Garros with a portion of their prize money reduced due to code violations related to excessive coaching.

In April, Tsitsipas was warned by the chair umpire during a match at the Barcelona Open after his father Apostolos crossed the line with coaching, leading to a dialogue.

Coaching in professional tennis has been modified in recent years, allowing players to receive verbal instructions and hand signals from their coach during matches, with limits. The Tsitsipas family exceeded these limits in three separate matches during the tournament.

According to L’Equipe, fines were issued for coaching violations during their matches, resulting in a total fine of €21,200 for the Tsitsipas family.

Stefanos also incurred fines during his singles quarterfinal match against Carlos Alcaraz, resulting in one of the highest fines collected by French Open organizers.

The largest fine at the event was given to Terence Atmane, who was fined €23,000 for hitting a ball into the stands and accidentally striking a spectator during his match.

The fines for the Tsitsipas family are relatively small compared to their total prize money, but for Atmane, it represents a significant reduction in pay as a first-round loser.
