Tyler Adams earned his first English Premier League start since March 2023 on Saturday and walked away with Man of the match honors.
Adams logged 90 minutes for the first time since March 11, 2023, helping Bournemouth earn a crucial 2-1 league victory over Everton at the Vitality Stadium. The U.S. men’s national team midfielder returned to club action after recently winning the CONCACAF Nations League with Gregg Berhalter’s squad.
“It’s a great feeling, especially to play at home,” Adams said postmatch. “To have that support behind us, it’s been a long time coming to get back out on the field and to earn three points and to have an impact on the squad today.”
Adams started alongside Lewis Cook and helped Andoni Iraola’s men move 16 points clear of the relegation zone. The 25-year-old won nine of 12 duels, drew two fouls, made four interceptions, and three tackles in the heart of Bournemouth’s midfield.
Dominic Solanke’s 64th minute opener was cancelled out by Beto’s 87th minute equalizer, but Bournemouth used a late own goal to win the match. Seamus Coleman watched as the Cherries walked away with a 2-1 home result and one that should truly solidify their EPL status for another season.
Adams, who excelled for the USMNT earlier this month, will aim to remain healthy for the remainder of the season.
Bournemouth’s busy return to league play continues Tuesday with a home showdown vs. Crystal Palace.
