Tyler Glasnow has been one of the best pitchers in baseball so far this season and is proving the Los Angeles Dodgers right for trading for him this offseason and promptly rewarding him with a 5-year, $136.5 million contract extension.
He has stayed healthy and been an anchor for this pitching staff so far, and he is now the first pitcher to reach a big milestone this season.
Glasnow took a loss in last night’s 1-0 defeat at the hands of the Pittsburgh Pirates, but he pitched a strong six innings and gave up just one run en route to becoming the first pitcher to eclipse 100 strikeouts this season.
Glasnow was up to 104 strikeouts after the game and has four double-digit strikeout performances so far this season.
He is on pace for 272 on the season, which would surpass his previous career-high of 162 he set last season with the Tampa Bay Rays.
Glasnow’s biggest issue has always been his health, as the 21 starts he made last year represented the first time he made more than 14 starts in a season.
He only had 30 wins in eight years in the majors prior to this season, so the Dodgers took a big risk when handing him that contract, but he has been worth every penny so far with a 2.93 ERA and 6-4 record so far.
Glasnow is an incredible pitcher, and we all want to see him stay on the mound and rack up at least 100 more strikeouts this season and many more in the future.
