Tyreek Hill Just Delivered the Most Honest Assessment of the 2023 Miami Dolphins

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Miami Dolphins went out with a whimper Saturday, with Mike McDaniel’s offense managing a season-low seven points in a three-score loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Dolphins’ lone touchdown came on a 53-yard go route to Tyreek Hill. On their other 58 snaps, the Dolphins averaged a meager 3.6 yards per play.

For a team whose ethos is “adversity is opportunity,” the Dolphins sure didn’t seize those opportunities Saturday.

They got punched in the face by a more physical Chiefs and didn’t have a counter.

All the good they did in the season’s first 13 weeks will largely be forgotten by a 2-4 finish. The Dolphins averaged 15.5 points in their final four — all of which were against playoff teams.

Miami Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill Gets Real

PFN asked Hill after the game if the Dolphins can win it all with their current core. Hill’s response?

“Unfortunately, every locker room is gonna be different every year. Salary cap, obviously, you know, guys wanting to get paid. But I feel in my heart that if this team were to come back together, this is the right group of people, you know, to win a chip, man.

“We got everything that it takes, man. You can see. Defense that came along, and as an offense, we gotta be able to put drives together and help those guys out, man. We just can’t be a bunch of frontrunners. Next year, I think we’ll learn from it.”

Hill nailed it. When things are good (i.e., at home when the offense is cooking), they’re great.

But when games get messy, the Dolphins consistently disappear, particularly on the offensive side of the ball.

“It’s tough, man, especially with the type of team that we got. Obviously, there are high expectations of everyone, and, you know, we hold ourselves to the standard. So we’re definitely, you know, expecting to be a really good team this year. Definitely wasn’t expecting a first-round exit, you know.

“So, you know, the message in the locker room was simple: Whenever you’re working out, you know, take this loss with you. Remember this feeling. Because it’s not fun, man, being on the other side of the loss, it is not fun.”
