To kick off the 2024 season, the Jacksonville Jaguars faced the Miami Dolphins on the road. The Jaguars had a touchdown lead at halftime but failed to score in the second half, resulting in a 20-17 loss as Miami’s Jason Meyers made a game-winning 52-yard field goal.

In the game against the Dolphins, Jaguars’ starting cornerback Tyson Campbell sustained a hamstring injury. Campbell participated in 75% of the team’s defensive snaps in Week 1. NFL insider Ari Meirov confirmed that Campbell has been placed on the injured reserve (IR), causing him to miss the next four games against the Browns, Bills, Texans, and Colts.

Tyson Campbell sidelined with hamstring injury

Selected in the second round of the 2021 NFL draft, Tyson Campbell from Georgia has played 44 games and started in 43 since joining the league. Last season, Campbell missed six games due to a hamstring injury, which is a recurring issue. Despite this setback, he signed a lucrative four-year, $76.5 million extension with $53.4 million guaranteed this offseason. Known for his impact in the secondary, Campbell recorded three interceptions, 15 pass breakups, one forced fumble, and 70 tackles in his standout 2022 season.

With Campbell out, the Jaguars will rely on Montaric Brown, who filled in for Campbell during his absence in 2023, and rookie De’Antre Prince, a fifth-round pick from Ole Miss who did not play in the season opener. Head coach Doug Pederson will need to adjust the secondary strategy in Campbell’s absence.
