UEFA Champions League Roundup: Pulisic and AC Milan suffer defeat in Leverkusen, amongst other results

UCL Roundup: Pulisic, AC Milan fall in Leverkusen, and more

Five U.S. men’s national team players featured in Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League action, but none of them ended up on the winning end of their respective scoreline.

Christian Pulisic and AC Milan fell 1-0 at Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday, suffering their second-straight loss in the competition. Pulisic started and played 80 minutes from his right wing position while Yunus Musah was an unused substitute.

Victor Boniface delivered the breakthrough goal for Xavi Alonso’s squad in the 51st minute.

Pulisic created three offensive chances, drew three fouls, and won five duels, but was unable to help the Rossoneri find the back of the net.

AC Milan are now 29th out of the 36-team league phase standings.

PSV ties Sporting Lisbon as Richie Ledezma returns

Eredivisie leaders PSV earned one point in a 1-1 home draw with Sporting Lisbon in Eindhoven.

Malik Tillman started and played 90 minutes for the reigning Dutch champions while Richie Ledezma logged 12 minutes off the bench in his first appearance in two weeks. Ricardo Pepi made a late cameo in second-half stoppage time.

Jerdy Schouten propelled Peter Bosz’s squad in front after 15 minutes, giving PSV a lead it would hold until the final stages of the match.

However, Daniel Braganca’s 84th minute equalizer helped the Portuguese visitors steal one point.

Tillman led all players in chances created (2) and fouls drawn (5) while winning 11 of 17 duels.

Ledezma completed all five of his passes in his substitute performance.

Auston Trusty, Celtic hammered by Borussia Dortmund

It was a forgettable night for Auston Trusty and Celtic.

Brendan Rodgers’ squad suffered a 7-1 hammering at Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday. Trusty logged 90 minutes in defense while Cameron Carter-Vickers missed the match due to a toe injury.

Dortmund’s Gio Reyna also missed the match as he continues his injury rehabilitation training.

Emre Can and Daizen Maeda traded goals in the opening 10 minutes before the Black and Yellow eventually got rolling. Karim Adeyemi registered a hat trick while Serhou Guirassy added one of his two goals on the night.

Guirassy and Felix Nmecha capped Dortmund’s win at 7-1 after both players scored after halftime.

Trusty has continued to fill in for Carter-Vickers following his summer transfer from Sheffield United.
