United States Extends Dominance with 10th Straight Presidents Cup Victory over International Team

Presidents Cup Final Round 2024

Si Woo Kim of South Korea missed a birdie putt on the 18th hole, resulting in a loss to Keegan Bradley as the United States secured an 18 1/2 to 12 1/2 victory over the International team at the Presidents Cup.

Bradley’s win gave the Americans the 15 1/2 points needed to win the tournament, with five matches still in progress on Sunday at Royal Montreal Golf Club.

This is the U.S.’s 10th consecutive win at the prestigious biennial tournament.

The Presidents Cup features 12 American golfers competing against 12 players from around the world, excluding Europe.

All 24 golfers participated in individual matches in the final round, with the Internationals starting the day four points behind.

Each match is worth a point, and a total score of 15 1/2 is required to secure victory in the tournament. The Americans entered the final round with an 11-7 lead, meaning the Internationals needed to win at least eight matches and secure one tie out of the 12 pairings to claim victory.

The largest final-round comeback in Presidents Cup history occurred when the Americans overturned a two-point deficit at Australia’s Royal Melbourne Golf Club in 2019.

The next Presidents Cup will be hosted by Medinah Country Club outside Chicago in 2026.

Xander Schauffele swiftly defeated Australia’s Jason Day 4&3 in the first match of the day.

South Korea’s Tom Kim, known for his outspoken nature, secured a draw with Sam Burns by sinking a birdie on the 15th hole.

Hideki Matsuyama, the highest-ranked International player from Japan, managed a narrow 1-Up victory over world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler.

Russell Henley also claimed a 3&2 victory over South Korea’s Sungjae Im around the same time.

Corey Conners from Listowel, Ont., revived the Internationals’ hopes with a convincing 5&3 win over Tony Finau in his standout performance of the week.

Taylor Pendrith from Richmond Hill, Ont., conceded to Patrick Cantlay on the 16th hole, resulting in a 3&1 loss that brought the Americans within one point of clinching the tournament.

Si Woo Kim could have tied his match against Bradley if he had made his birdie putt on the 18th hole, but his miss led to a 1-Up loss.

Following the Americans’ victory, play continued.

Australia’s Min Woo Lee birdied the par-4 18th hole to secure a tie with Wyndham Clark. Sanith Theegala missed his birdie putt on the 18th green, resulting in a tie with South Korea’s Byeong Hun An.

Collin Morikawa then earned a 2&1 victory over Australia’s Adam Scott, followed by Christiaan Bezuidenhout of South Africa defeating Brian Harman 2&1.

In the final match of the tournament, Max Homa defeated Mackenzie Hughes of Dundas, Ont., 2&1. This marked the first time that three Canadians participated in the event.
