United States Men’s National Team: Tyler Adams set to play against Brazil, Josh Sargent sidelined

USMNT trying to keep Tyler Adams, Josh Sargent healthy heading into Copa America

U.S. men’s national team head coach Gregg Berhalter will have at least one added reinforcement for Wednesday’s home friendly vs. Brazil.

Tyler Adams is available to play for the USMNT, in what would be his sixth appearance for club and country this year. Berhalter confirmed Adams’ status for Wednesday’s Continental Clasico at Camping World Stadium, which is the USMNT’s final pre-Copa America tune-up before the group stage begins.

“Tyler will be available to play limited minutes and my guess is it’s under 45 minutes that he’s able to play,” Berhalter told media in a press conference Tuesday.

Adams, who joined AFC Bournemouth last summer from Leeds United, missed most of the English Premier League season after re-aggravating a previous hamstring injury. He did feature last spring against Luton Town, Everton, and Brentford, as well as make two USMNT appearances during the CONCACAF Nations League Final Four.

Forward Josh Sargent though will miss his second-straight match as he continues to battle back from a foot injury. Sargent entered USMNT camp off the back of his second-consecutive impressive season with Norwich City, where he tallied 16 goals in 26 league matches.

His status for the Copa America remains unknown despite Berhalter admitting that Sargent is making continued progress.

“Josh is progressing well,” Berhalter said. “He won’t take part in this game.”

The USMNT are aiming to rebound from a 5-1 loss to Colombia, which marked the worst loss for the program in the Berhalter-era.
